Artist Statement

I can say that my extensive knowledge of media-making includes expert use of Adobe CS5, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Dreamweaver - but then I'd be lying.  In truth, I am as much an artist or maker of media as MTV's Jersey Shore is a documentary of genuine Italian culture.  Today, we are engulfed in media of the digital variety and my complete and utter unfamiliarity of it all is my motivation for taking this course.  Until recently, I'd only ever been brave enough to open and edit a Word document.  Once I even created a PowerPoint presentation that took a mere 18 hours from start to finish.  I later learned that my 6 basic slides should have taken the average person no more than 2 hours to complete.  My extensive technological experience also includes a Facebook page that I recently created.  I am thoroughly entertained with the idea of openly "liking" everything I see, but am equally disappointed in my inability to profess my "unlike" for things that I don't.  So this is the extent of my knowledge with digital media-making and with this course, I hope to be able to finally get my hands dirty on the actual production side, rather than dwelling solely in the consumer end of the equation.
